Cook / Expeditor
Under close supervision and according to established policies and procedures, responsible for the preparation and cooking of food for patients and cafeteria customers, including special diets. Calculates quantities of food needed for patients and the cafeteria. Prepares all baked goods in specified amounts.
Reviews production assignments and menus to determine needs. Plans work schedule to ensure food is prepared on time for service. Prepares all food items needed for service. Utilizing proper and appropriate approved cooking techniques. Must be able to calculate recipes to ensure proper yield. Prepare food for evening service and for next day service. Prepares and sets up specific food items needed for meal service according to diet manual and diet tally sheet. Season and taste all food prepared. Test food during and after cooking to ensure flavor, temperature, and quality meet established standards. Distribute food to cafeteria and hospitality associates, as needed. Inspect leftover food for salvagability & record all waste on waste sheet. Wrap, date and labels food for proper storage.
Clean, sanitize and organize general work area. Ensure that personal performance reflects the Mission, Vision, Standards of Behavior and the Service Goals and complies with all company, departmental and government policies, procedures, practices, regulations and codes.
Minimum requirement, high school diploma or GED.
Work requires extensive knowledge of professional safe cooking techniques, knife skills, and usage of job specific cooking equipment and utensils. Job requires basic math skills to be able to calculate and convert recipes to ensure proper yield and portion size. Requires constant cooperation and communication with director and supervisors and all other foodservice staff. Requires a Serve Safe Certification to ensure proper and safe handling of all food and equipment. Job requires flexibility in order to be able to perform any and all of the above duties. Requires a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record acceptable to the Hospital's liability carrier in order to drive vans or small trucks for the purpose of delivering food and supplies.
