The Medical Assistant functions within his/her skill set in providing patient care as delegated by the clinic LPN/RN.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists the provider with examinations and procedures. 2.
Documents chief complaint/visit reason and details according to provider preference. 3.
Documents telephone messages for follow up by the nurse or provider. 4.
Escorts patients to the exam room. 5.
Initiates, reviews, and updates patient's medication list according to provider preference. 6.
Maintains optimum inventory of supplies. 7.
Notifies patients re normal test results according to provider preference. 8.
Obtains blood samples and other specimens for testing as ordered. 9.
Obtains patient weight and vital signs accurately. 10. Processes referrals for consultative, diagnostic, and therapeutic services by scheduling and obtaining precertification or authorizations as required. 11. Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, sets personal standards, stays focused under pressure, and meets attendance/punctuality requirements.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program required.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum one year Medical Assistant or other medical specialist experience preferred. Medical clinic experience preferred.
Registered Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist certification required. American Heart Association BLS certification required.
Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times. Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort.
