RN Peri-Op Educ/Trainer
Responsible for coordination of care to meet identified needs of the patient/family. Supervises the management of patient care utilizing critical thinking and nursing process, discharge planning, resource identification, linking and scheduling patients with required services, monitoring care delivery, advocating for the patient, care planning and evaluating outcomes. Coordinates patient care across the health care continuum, and assists other team members with meeting individual patient needs. Assumes responsibility of Perioperative Education for the New Graduate Nurse or experienced RN transitioning into Perioperative Services as a new role. Works in collaboration with Department Supervisors and RN Residency Coordinator, Surgical Services to ensure comprehensive training objectives are met for assigned staff. Education:Graduate from accredited nursing program. Diploma or transcripts on highest degree earned required. BSN or higher preferred. Diploma or AA degree must be currently enrolled or accepted to a BSN or MSN program within one year of employment/transition to new role; degree must be completed within 3 years.
Experience:Minimum three years acute care surgical services experience, required. Five years preferred. Trauma Center experience, preferred. Basic computer skills/experience with computerized documentation systems required. Completion of a formal Preceptor Training Program within past 5 years, required; experience as a preceptor in an acute care perioperative setting, required. Licenses:Current active unrestricted license issued by State of California. Current American Heart Association BLS Provider required.CNOR required. Skills:1. Demonstrates an understanding of the AORN standards and maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements related to providing safe patient care in the Perioperative setting.2. Participates in Quality Improvement processes as required. 3. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with staff and physician colleagues. Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with interprofessional team. 4. Attends and participates in monthly Perioperative Educator/Trainer Meetings with Surgical Services Residency Coordinator.5. Maintains CNOR Certification requirements and participates in continuing education related to adult learning, communication, and mentoring. Demonstrates principles of adult learning, facilitation of learning and coaching/mentoring during interactions with assigned staff.6. Demonstrates flexibility when faced with a fast-paced and changing work environment.7. May be involved in unit-specific training and staff development for existing staff and new hire experienced perioperative nurses, as required.
