Registered Respiratory Therapist
Position Summary: The Registered Respiratory Therapist delivers all facets of respiratory care according to department policies and procedures.
Position Expectations and Responsibilities:
Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Expected to be able to learn computer programs related to the type of work in the department, including HBOC, Star Navigator, and MISYS.
Should be able to perform invasive and noninvasive procedures.
Must be proficient in drawing arterial blood gasses. Initiate respiratory care treatment upon the order of physicians throughout the hospital.
Monitor ventilator-dependent patients.
Serve as a preceptor for students and new employees.
Function as a Resource Therapist as needed.
Complete all requirements in the blood gas lab in compliance with College of American Pathology standards.
Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school OR Six months to one year related experience and/or training
Florida Registered Respiratory Therapist license
BLS certification from the American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS)
Newborn Resuscitation Program completion (for all therapists assigned to NICU)
Recommended credentials (not required):
Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (PALS)
Newborn Resuscitation Program completion (NRP)
Perinatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care
Certified Pulmonary Function Therapist (CPFT)
Registered Pulmonary Function Therapist (RPFT)
- *Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites. *The person in this position will work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions. *In the spirit of wellness for both our employees and patients, Boca Raton Regional Hospital has instituted a mandatory influenza prevention vaccination program. Current employees must receive the influenza prevention vaccination free of charge during the recognized flu season.
