Position Summary: The Telecommunications Operator is responsible for answering all incoming, outgoing, and internal calls for patients, hospital personnel and physicians through the internal PBX systems.
Position Expectations & Responsibilities:
Responsible for the monitoring and initiation of emergency procedures using the standard hospital emergency codes.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Wescom Communication System, Healthcare-related applications such as Star and CareManager, and the Hospital Intranet Physician Directory and Employee Directory.
Possess high proficiency with personal computers, printers, and copiers/fax machines.
Proficient in operation of 16 feature Inte-Com PBX Console.
Proficient in operation of power failure phones.
Proficient with overhead paging system.
Answer 100% of incoming calls to the main hospital switch room, identifying proper connection.
Expected to answer 100% patient bell call requests in a timely manner using the Wescom Communication System.
Place long distance phone calls when requested.
Initiate overhead paging, utilizing articulate, professional diction.
Expected to notify Maintenance and/or Security using the land-based radio if required.
Page physicians using alpha paging via intranet and digital paging via phone system.
Receive nursing pager assignments via fax and enters same into Wescom Communication System.
Maintain accurate shift assignments in a timely manner. Demonstrate understanding and commitment to confidentiality.
Exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations.
Recognize situations which require notification of a supervisor. Expected to demonstrate ability to relay calls of a medical nature to the nursing staff and convey messages accurately and promptly to the appropriate personnel.
Possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Minimum 6 months to 1 year related experience and/or training.
Inbound Call Center experience required

and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites. *The person in this position will work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions.
