The Quality Assurance Specialist performs the quality review of PCRMC and outsourced transcriptionists' transcribed reports. The Quality Assurance Specialist will routinely be involved in the research of questions related to documentation and in the education of others involved with patient care documentation. The Quality Assurance Specialist will use their extensive experience and knowledge of medical terminology to interpret dictation that others are unable to clarify. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- 1. Each pay period, randomly reviews 3% to 5% of each medical transcriptionist/speech editor's transcribed reports against actual dictation, applying industry specific standards provided by current resources and references. 2. Uses preferred standard quality scoring criteria to calculate and score reports consistently and fairly based on varying degrees of errors and The AHDI Book of Style. 3. Edits reports accurately and timely after completed quality reviews. 4. Provides timely and consistent feedback to the medical transcriptionists in order to eliminate repetition of errors and build skills. 5. Remains up-to-date with new medical terminology and industry standards in order to act as a resource to the medical transcriptionists/speech editors, assisting with clarifying dictation, researching questions, and educating transcription staff as required. 6. Continually develops understanding of multiple computer applications and document management programs in order to effectively contribute and adapt to the changing healthcare environment. 7. Transcribes reports as needed. Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of medical transcription, as normally obtained through additional training as a Medical Transcriptionist/Speech Editor. Work Experience
At least 3-5 years' experience in acute care medical transcription to include all work types, e.g., History and Physicals, Consultations, Operative Reports, Discharge Summaries, and radiology required or 5-10 years' experience in acute care medical transcription and quality auditing. Certification/License
Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) or Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist (CHDS), preferred. Mental/Physical Requirements
Considerable mental concentration for sustained periods of time with attention to detail of paramount of importance. Pressures of time, accuracy, and interruptions. Must handle confidential material. Long periods of sitting are required. Standing, walking reaching, bending, and stooping. Vision and hearing must be good. Must have finger dexterity and complete use of hands and arms. Approximately 95% of working time is spent at a computer. Must have great customer service skills and the patience to deal with difficult situations.
Standard office conditions; clean, well-lit, climate-controlled area. Frequent distractions from doctors or other hospital staff who may inquire about reports. Occasional phone interruptions.
