Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. Maintaining all applicable KRMC Policies and Procedures. Registration of patients; verification of benefits; discharge of patients, including collection of payments due; performs CPT and ICD coding, data entry and balancing of accounts by provider.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to communicate effectively with others, to manage multiple priorities and tasks, to maintain attention to detail; knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications; must complete and maintain BLS certification within 30 days of hire; is able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol; knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric; knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology.
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent. Must have MA Certification from either the American Association of Medical assistants or the American Medical Technologists or attended an accredited school or worked as a Medical Assistant 2000 hours in a year prior to February, 2000.
EXPERIENCE: One to two years experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent must be able to: distinguish appropriate colors, capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking or being on feet 90% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing; sitting at desk 10% of the time per day; communicating using telephone.
