Position Summary

The Gastroenterology(Advanced Associate) Procedure Technician provides direct and indirect services to the endoscopy patient under the supervision of an RN and performs tasks as necessary for the efficient, effective, and high quality functioning of the endoscopy suites. Cleans and prepares equipment for re-processing and High Level Disinfection. Organize processing department. Maintains equipment, supplies, and care of endoscopic fiberoptic systems and scopes. Supports the unit monitoring and evaluating process to improve patient outcomes. Maintains and cleans all treatment room scope cabinetry. Assists the physician for all endoscopy, pulmonology procedures, and cases done in the GI Lab. Ensures supplies and equipment are available according to the physician, and patient needs. Available for on-call shifts as assigned.

The Surgical Technician provides direct and indirect services to the surgical patient under the supervision of an RN and performs tasks as necessary for the efficient, effective, and high quality functioning of the operating room. Scrubs all surgical procedures and ensures supplies and equipment are available according to the physician preference card. Takes call after hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·

Assists the surgeon during surgical procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, draping the patient

·

Assists with room turnover and restocking rooms and other surgical services areas

·

Communicates changes and needs to SPD and circulator

·

Conscientious , orderly, and emotionally stable to handle the demands of the operating room

·

Consistently pays attention to the procedure and applies ongoing critical thinking skills

·

Ensures proper instrumentation is available for each and subsequent procedures

·

Follows all principles of sterile technique

·

Keeps abreast of new developments in the field and continues education independently, teaching peers as well

·

Knows instruments sets and recommends improvements for efficiencies

·

Knows procedures and anticipates in order to have instruments ready for surgeons without having to be told

·

Other Duties as Assigned.

·

Participates/initiates all counts as required

·

Properly cares for instruments and able to clean, decontaminate instruments and knows basic sterile processing

Education and Qualifications

·

American Heart Association CPR Certification required.

·

Basic computer skills required

·

Experience in operating room preferred

·

Medical terminology required

·

Must have graduated from an accredited surgical technician program or have previous experience.

·

Prefer technician who has competed certification testing by the Association of Surgical Technologists
