Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to support Surgical S
Job Summary: Mary Washington Health Alliance LLC ("MWHA") will employ a full-time qualified, experience and appropriately licensed allied health professional (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant) who will be located at Mary Washington Hospital or Stafford Hospital for the purpose of assisting physician-participants of MWHC with respect to surgical procedures performed at either location. Such duties may evolve from time to time, but shall include the following:Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Consult and Coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans consistently with MWHA's clinical policies and procedures Obtain, record, and dictate medical histories.Perform, record and dictate physical examinations.Dictate discharge and transfer summaries.Make daily rounds, record progress notes, write routine orders (comfort and diet, laboratory tests, non-invasive examinations).Apply and change surgical dressingsRemove sutures and staplesProvide basic, bedside care.Prepare and administer and record prescribed medicationsPrepare patients for discharge from the hospital.Educate patients and family regarding disease, procedures, medications, nutrition, health care and post-discharge care.Initiate patient education plan, as presecribed by a MWHA physician.Act as liaison between nursing and surgeons.Request consults from appropriate physicians. Follow-up with outpatients Handle phone calls from patients and home health nurses.Evaluate patients who require a surgical consult.Assist by prep and drape in the operating roomAssist at surgery Assist in minimally invasive procedures
Close wounds and apply dressings Transfer patient to post-anesthesia careQualifications: Virginia Physician Assistant License required.Previous experience as a PA preferred.
