GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Functions as a Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive care to a designated patient population. Performs physical and psychological assessments, diagnosis and treatment of episodic illnesses in collaboration with physicians; performs diagnostic procedures, administers chemotherapy, blood products and supportive therapies; coordinates and communicates all aspects of care with patients/family and the health care team. Functions in coordination with the Director of the program. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Nurse Practitioner with a Master?s Degree in Nursing or Science.
LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Credentialed as a member of the GUH professional staff.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years experience in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and/or Blood and Marrow Transplant, with a minimum of 2 years experience in an acute care facility. Experience in a university teaching hospital preferred.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients/families as well as staff and physicians; excellent clinical knowledge base of BMT. Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to function independently.
