Medical Director of Palliative Care services
JOB SUMMARY: Provides comprehensive patient medical care to patients of MIMA and Mercy Medical Center by interviewing, examining and treating clinical patients in order to meet their medical needs.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Provides inpatient consultation services in palliative care. Facilitates clarification of patient and family goals of care. Consults with the attending physician and the Interdisciplinary Team to establish a written plan of care at intervals specified in the plan. Facilitates access to appropriate supportive care services. Assists in the development of standards of care. Adheres to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff, and the organization. Timely and fully documents clinical services provided to MIMA and Hospital patients in accordance with applicable MIMA and Hospital medical records and related policies and procedures, and cooperates with MIMA staff to ensure that services performed are billed properly. Provides appropriate training and oversight to clinical staff, including MIMA and Hospital nurses, physician assistants, and others in connection with services provided by you to MIMA and Hospital patients. Acts as a consultant for the Quality Program in palliative care. Supervises the medical aspects of palliative care. May participate in strategic planning related to the direction, growth and development of the Hospital. May assist with the development and implementation of clinical and operational protocols for MIMA and the Hospital, including but not limited to protocols relating to peer review, credentialing quality assurance and risk management. Promotes goodwill and staff morale within MIMA and Hospital personnel, including physicians. Provides valued input concerning issues of practice, personnel and policies. Assists with the recruitment of MIMA personnel, including physicians. Performs other duties as requested.
