Job Summary:Under the direction and supervision of the Specialty Coordinator/Registered Nurse, provides assistance to nursing staff. Communicates changes in patient status as appropriate. Duties and responsibilities are performed according to standards outlined in the competency based/evaluation tool. The Operating Room Technician will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Collaborates with the care team in the formation of the patient's plan of care to achieve desired outcomes for patient/significant others based on physician preference cards, current assessment findings, diagnostic reports, and standards of care/practice. Communicates safe therapeutic care for patient throughout the patient's perioperative experience. Prepares OR rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment. Assists the surgical team during operative procedures. Follows aseptic technique in opening sterile supplies and sets up for procedure. Assists in turnover of room between cases. Drapes patients for surgical procedures. Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Provides input for changes to physician preference cards according to surgeon's request.. Accepts responsibilities for on-call. Collaborates and coordinates patient care with both care team and non-care team members. Initiates action effective in emergency situations. Maintains a safe and orderly environment. Participates in hospital wide infection control plan and quality improvement process. Demonstrates effective communication, customer service, and team building skills.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED equivalent requiredGraduate of an approved formal program in operating room technology to include OR Technology, Surgical Scrub Tech, or Surgical Technology (6 months experience preferred) OR Licensed Practical Nurse with one year operating room experience (licensed to practice in Virginia required) OR trained Scrub/Operating Room Tech with a minimum of seven (7) years hospital operating room experience.Successful completion of pre-placement/employment evaluation.
